The Position: Associate Analyst for Global Trade and Indirect Tax
This Associate Analyst position, which is based in Pune, is a member of the Indirect Tax Global Trade team, which assists customers in managing their indirect tax responsibilities, particularly those pertaining to import/export regulations, customs duties, Goods and Services Tax (GST), and other trade compliance issues.

Responsibilities
You will have a lot of responsibilities as an Associate Analyst, including:
- helping with corporate advising tasks pertaining to trade laws, customs compliance, and indirect taxation.
- creating and examining business contracts, such as leases, employment contracts, assignment deeds, vendor contracts, and other legally binding agreements.
- supporting due diligence procedures with an emphasis on compliance history and indirect tax concerns in merger and acquisition deals.
- carrying out comprehensive research on case law, notifications, circulars, and indirect tax regulations in order to assist client deliverables.
- drafting legal opinions and notes on a range of business and commercial law topics, frequently with regard to potential tax ramifications.
- drafting transaction-related documents under supervision, including term sheets, escrow agreements, joint venture agreements, share purchase agreements, and shareholders’ agreements.
- Staying updated with regulatory changes in GST, customs, and other indirect tax laws, and sharing insights with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to support multi-disciplinary advisory projects that involve legal, tax, and operational inputs.
This position will give you hands-on experience with legal documentation, risk assessments, client interaction, and exposure to real business cases. You’ll be contributing to high-impact work that affects key client decisions.
Required Background and Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- hold a postgraduate or graduate degree in engineering, business administration (MBA), economics, statistics, mathematics, or law.
- Candidates with a background in law or taxation will have a clear edge.
- Prior understanding of indirect taxation, especially as it relates to GST, customs, excise, or previous tax regimes like sales tax or service tax, will be helpful, but it is not necessary.
