Responsibilities and Impact

As an R&D Mechanical Designer, you will be involved in every stage of the design process—from initial concept sketches to final prototypes. Your contribution will shape components that are central to transformer technology used across industries and geographies.

Here’s a deeper look at what you will be doing in this role:

  1. Creating Detailed CAD Models:
You will be responsible for developing precise and parameter-driven 3D CAD models for various components and assemblies. These models are more than just technical drawings—they serve as the digital blueprint for innovation. Your work will allow for scalable modifications, easy updates, and smooth integration with simulation workflows.
  2. Supporting Engineering Development:
Together with other engineers, you will co-develop new products and improve current designs. This is about improving the efficiency, durability, and ease of manufacturing of items, not only about drawing parts.
  3. Preparing Geometry for Simulations:
One of your critical tasks will be preparing defeatured geometries for simulation purposes. This involves cleaning up CAD models and simplifying structures while preserving essential features so that they can be analyzed using internal tools and platforms.
  4. Simulation and Validation:
Using internally developed tools and platforms, you will perform simulations to test and validate various mechanical concepts. Whether it’s structural integrity, heat distribution, or vibration tolerance, your simulations will directly influence design decisions.
  5. Testing and Prototyping: You will assist the team in converting digital designs into tangible components as part of the R&D cycle. In order to make sure that performance matches simulation results, you will be part in the validation and testing of these prototypes.
  6. Preparing Manufacturing Documents:
Converting designs into useful manufacturing documents will be a significant aspect of your job. To guarantee that fabrication teams can precisely construct your designs, this includes technical drawings, dimensioned models, and assembly instructions.
  7. Facilitating Knowledge Transfer: In addition to designing, you will also prepare training materials and design guidelines, which will add to the body of knowledge. The conversion of R&D ideas into scalable engineering procedures will be aided by these resources.
  8. Cross-Functional Support:
You will work closely with product management, sales, and marketing teams, offering technical support that helps communicate product features, manufacturing feasibility, and customer-specific modifications.
  9. Upholding Core Values:
At Hitachi Energy, safety and integrity are not optional—they are fundamental to how we operate. You’ll be expected to demonstrate ownership, responsibility, and professionalism in every action you take, not just for your safety, but also for your colleagues and the broader business.
  10. Regulation and Compliance: You will make sure that every design you produce conforms with both external and internal requirements. Your regular duties will include following engineering codes and procedures and comprehending industry best practices.

Candidate Profile

This role is designed for someone who is eager to learn, capable of adapting to new tools and workflows, and enjoys solving real-world engineering challenges. Here’s what we’re looking for:

Qualifications for Education:

mechanical engineering bachelor’s or master’s degree, or a similar field. Applicants that have worked on CAD modeling, mechanical simulation, or product development projects for school or as an intern will have an edge.

Technical Skills:

It is crucial to have strong prior familiarity with 3D CAD software or educational exposure to it. Although mastery of any CAD program is desirable, familiarity with CREO will be especially beneficial.

  • knowledge of materials, tolerancing, component relationships, and mechanical structures.
  • You can use internal tools more effectively if you know how to develop in Python or Visual Basic.
  • A practical understanding of simulation-based testing and design validation principles

Professional Skills:

Excellent communication skills and the ability to present your designs to stakeholders who are not technical as well as those who are.

  • working as a team and being prepared to operate in a cooperative, multicultural environment.
  • care and commitment to excellence throughout the whole design process.
  • willingness to occasionally travel for cross-location cooperation, testing, or prototyping.
  • fluent in both written and spoken English to facilitate contact with international teams.
